Ireland England & Scotland Adventure - September 2009
| On the last day of August Jenny
and I met good friends Jenny and Marylyn Mitchell in Chicago and we flew
to Dublin Ireland. From the airport we drove to the Cork County on the
south coast. I had rented an apartment in the tiny town of Rosscarbery
which we pronounced Ross-car-berry and the Irish pronounce Ros-CAR-bry
but despite our differences, we found it. Our host, Nora Hubbert ran a
shop, Hubbert's Craft Store, which was only a hundred yards from our new
home. The village was very small with most of the businesses on the town
square that my bedroom window looked out on to. Here are pictures of Jenny and Marylyn exploring the square . The Seafood Restaurant looked very interesting until we checked the prices. It was outrageous and we didn't understand how anyone could afford it. After a while we realized that because of the Dollar-Euro exchange rate, everything was outrageous to us. That explained Marylyn's expression in the local grocery store. I'm pictured sampling the other Black Beer of Ireland. I found Murphy's Irish Stout creamy and smooth but Jerry, being a purest, would only allow classic Guinness to touch his lips We found the Irish food to be hardy and old fashion. It reminded Jenny and I of the English food from the days of our youth. On the south coast there are hundreds of bays and inlets and it was all very picturesque. Jerry & Marylyn are standing by a pier that was part of a fish farming business. In the last picture we are in the village of Glandore which became one of our favorites. |
