Dyson Cousin's Reunion - 2003

In May, 2003, Jenny and I traveled to Texas for the Dyson Cousin's Reunion. This included all of my cousins, aunts and uncles on my mother's side of my family. Only my cousin Glenda and cousin Susan were unable to attend. Our cousin Peggy has passed away. Also attending were mom's brother, Vern, her sister Olie, my aunts Chris and Cleo, and many second and third cousins, and many spouses. My Aunt Erna was unable to join us but we were able to visit her. It was truly a wonderful gathering.
Us older cousins were depression babies born from the Texas dirt, and it was poor dirt at that. The middle cousins were war babies from WWII and the younger ones are baby boomers. We have never been together as one group. Some I had not seen since we were children. One cousin told me that I stole her comic book and she wanted it back. I gave her a hug instead. Another cousin reminded me of long teenage talks on firefly filled evenings. I wished that I had more time for long talks with her now.
Dodd's creek was not nearly as deep as I remembered but I suppose it still has fish in it on wet years. Pop's cotton gin is gone. The Cowhouse is still the river of my youth and I remember swimming at the 'falls' with Peggy when we were very young. The cemetery was peaceful and all of those kinfolks including Mom and Daddy were resting comfortably.
I took a lot of pictures, some of people and some of things that interested me. So look at the pictures and drop me an e-mail. Jenny and I really enjoyed the trip, the reunion and the family..... Hal Mayberry.
